Scientists believe that Alzheimer’s disease may result from a deficiency in chemicals or neurotransmitters. In which it is used by nerves in the brain to communicate with one another.
Aricept (Donepezil Hydrochloride) inhibits acetylcholinesterase. It is an enzyme responsible for the destruction of one neurotransmitter which is acetylcholine. This leads to increased concentrations of acetylcholine in the brain. The increased concentrations are believed to be responsible for the improvement seen during treatment with this medication. This will also improve the symptoms but does not slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.

Aricept (Donepezil Hydrochloride) belongs to the class of medications called cholinesterase inhibitors. This is available for oral administration in film-coated tablets. Each contains 5mg, 10mg, or 23mg of donepezil hydrochloride. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved this medication.
How to use Aricept (Donepezil Hydrochloride)?
The recommended dosage depends on your medical condition and response.
Aricept Tablets is usually started at 5mg a day. If it’s well tolerated after 4-6weeks, the dosage may be increased to 10mg a day. It is to be taken by mouth with a full glass of water. You may take the medication with or without food. Use it regularly to have the most benefit of it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day.
