Disopyramide Phosphate is a Type 1A antiarrhythmic drug that inhibits the fast sodium channels. This blocks a certain electrical signal in the heart that could cause an irregular heartbeat. Treating an irregular heartbeat may lessen the risk of blood clots. Its effect can reduce the risk of a heart attack or stroke.
How is Disopyramide Phosphate taken?
The recommended dosage for this drug is based on your medical condition and response.
This medicine is usually taken 2 to 4 times a day. Swallow it as a whole do not break or chew it. Take it at the same time each day or as directed by your doctor. Use it regularly to get the most benefit of it. Do not stop the medication or change the dose without consulting your doctor.

Call your doctor right away if you have:
- Little or no urinating, difficult or painful urination

- A light-headed feeling like you might pass out
- Shortness of breath, rapid weight gain, or swelling
- Low blood sugar (dizziness, hunger, headache, fast heart rate, sweating, confusion)
What are the precautions in taking Disopyramide Phosphate?
- Tell your doctor if you are allergic to this medicine, any other medications, or any of the ingredients in this drug. You may ask your pharmacist for a list of the ingredients.
- Inform your pharmacist what other non-prescription or prescription medications, nutritional supplements, vitamins, and herbal products you are taking or plan to take. Your doctor may need to change the dosages of your medications.
- Tell your doctor if you have a heart block or have ever had a prolonged qt interval. Your doctor may tell you not to take Disopyramide Phosphate.
- Let your doctor know if you ever had diabetes, heart disease, glaucoma, benign prostatic hypertrophy, myasthenia gravis, urinary retention, kidney or liver disease, low or high blood levels of potassium in your blood.
- Consult a doctor if you are planning to become pregnant, pregnant, or are breastfeeding. If you become pregnant while taking this medicine, call your doctor.
- If you are 65 years of age or older, discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits of taking this medicine. Older adults must not usually take this drug. This is not as safe as other medications that can be used to treat the same condition.
- If you are having surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking Disopyramide Phosphate.
- Ask your doctor about the safe usage of alcoholic drinks while taking Disopyramide Phosphate. Alcohol can make the side effects of this drug worse.
