Marplan (Isocarboxazid) is an antidepressant used to treat depression. It is to restore the balance of certain natural substances in the brain. Marplan (Isocarboxazid) works in the brain by elevating the levels of serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. It is by inhibiting an enzyme called monoamine oxidase. It breaks down serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. When monoamine oxidase is inhibited serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine are not broken down. It is increasing the concentration of all three neurotransmitters in the brain.

Why use Marplan (Isocarboxazid)?

Marplan contains an active ingredient of Isocarboxazid. It is a monoamine oxidase inhibitor. It is a colorless and crystalline substance with very little taste. This product is available as a 10 mg tablet for oral use. It may also be used to treat Parkinson’s disease. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has already approved this prescription.

How to use Marplan (Isocarboxazid)?

Marplan (Isocarboxazid) is to be taken by mouth with a full glass of water. It is usually taken 2 to 4 times a day. You may take it with or without food. It should not be taken more than 60 milligrams per day.

The dosage is based on your condition and response. Your doctor may start at a low dose and gradually increase your dose. Remember to take it at the same time every day.
